When I Look out my Window

When I look out my window, I see things that you can only see if you look very close.  I saw deer, rabbits, frogs, and a lot of other things too.

The deer babies ran and played in the leaves as the mother watched them.  The father deer collected berries and apples in the woods.  The rest of the deer found shelter as it started sprinkling rain on their heads.

A slimy green frog leaped past the window trying to get to her baby tadpoles in a little pipe that was in the ground full of water.  I saw another frog flip out his long, sticky tongue and slurp up a fly swarming around his bulged out head.  Then two frogs hopped past as it started raining just a little harder.

After the frogs bounced off into the mist, rabbits sped by like speeding bullets.  You could barely see them, but I looked very close and very hard.  The rabbits ran and played while I watched them closely.  The baby rabbits gnawed on carrots they had found.  Then they ran off when a big black dog lumbered into the yard.

The strange critter let out a long beautiful howl that seemed to last forever.  Puppies slid around the corner after their mom like the howl was a call for them.  They played in the leaves like frisky bear cubs and it seemed like they were playing hide and seek.  The puppies barked at the sight of a sleek yellow cat near an old pine tree.  The puppies tried to catch kitty, but he climbed the tall shady tree as it swayed in the wind.  The dogs eventually wandered off because they knew they couldn’t climb the tree.

The cat slowly climbed down the tree as the sun came out, and a beautiful rainbow spread across the sky.  The yellow kitten made sure the dogs were gone.  Then I spotted him speeding past a couple of trees, and I turned my head to see what he was doing.   He cornered an orange, red, and yellow butterfly in the woods.  He swatted and pawed with the colorful butterfly until finally he left as the face of the glowing moon shown down on him.

It’s amazing what you can find just by looking out your window.  I didn’t wish for a moment that I were out there with them.  I just wanted to watch them.  You're probably wondering what happened to the butterfly. Well, I have him for a pet, and every time I look at him I always remember all the animals I saw that day.
