Message from the Principal

On behalf of the students, teachers, staff, and parents of the Banoak Community, I want to welcome you to our World Wide Web site — our electronic gateway to the world. I invite you to explore our school's site; we have tried to provide you with information that is useful.

Students at Banoak School have numerous opportunities for enrichment in all curricular areas. Students have been invited to participate in the State Elementary School Chorus, Kool Terrific Kids program, an active AIG program, in-house news broadcast, recognition of Honor Roll students, perfect attendance, and "Hard Worker" in kindergarten through second grade.

The Reading and Language Arts program is phonics-based.  Assessment tools are used to ensure students receive instruction at their level of comprehension.  As a result, students receive multilevel instruction in reading.  Multisensory instruction is used for remediation at all levels.  Reading and writing experiences are both narrative and expository based, and integrated within content areas of science, social studies, and mathematics.

Computers in all classrooms and labs, featuring Gateway computers, provide the technology for extending and enhancing learning associated with all aspects of the curriculum. Supervised Internet access provides the opportunity for global communication and exploration to appropriate sites.

The Banoak School community, including staff and parents, is committed to effective communication between the home and school. Our School Improvement Plan specifically addresses strategies for integrating positive teaching techniques across the curriculum. For further information, please feel free to e-mail me.
