October 22, 2005 ST. STEPHENS HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES MOLE DAY
On Friday, October 21, chemistry students at St. Stephens High School will celebrate Mole Day. Mole Day is celebrated internationally by chemistry classes in honor of the mole, a chemist's unit of amount. A mole is equal to 6.02 x 10^23 atoms or molecules, so Mole Day is celebrated on October 23 from 6:02 am to 6:02 pm. Since October 23 falls on a Sunday this years, our students will be celebrating it on Friday, October 21.
Festivities will begin this year with the annual Mole Breakfast at 6:02 am in Room 305. The menu will include egg and sausage cassermole, fruit salad and molk (milk). Two classes of Honors Chemistry have prepared science demonstrations such as "Genie in the Bottle", "Halloween clock reaction" and "Elephant Toothpaste" and they will perform the demonstrations for physical science classes at St. Stephens High School. Other events include the display of t-shirts, stuffed moles and artwork in honor of the mole and Mole Day.
