The Catawba County Board of Education met in a special called session on
May 14, 2003 at 8:30 a.m. at the County Schools’ Annex Building with
Chairman Charlie Wyant presiding. The following members were present:
Mr. Biggerstaff, Mrs. Blackburn, Mrs. Sherrill, Mrs. Butler, Mr. Scott
and Mr. Sigmon. Also in attendance was Superintendent Ann Hart.
The meeting opened with a Moment of Silence followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance led by Mrs. Sherrill.
Superintendent Hart amended the agenda to consider action for the
Assistant Superintendent of Auxiliary Services vacancy. Mr. Scott made
the motion to approve the amended agenda with Mrs. Butler seconding the
motion. All members were in favor. Superintendent Hart made the
recommendation of Rick Sherrill for the position. She gave background
information on Mr. Sherrill who comes highly recommended from fellow
colleagues and would bring years of experience and knowledge to our
county. Mrs. Butler made the motion to accept Superintendent Hart’s
recommendation of Rick Sherrill for the position of Assistant
Superintendent of Auxiliary Services. Mrs. Sherrill seconded the motion
with no opposition.
Upon a motion by Mr. Biggerstaff and seconded by Mrs. Sherrill, the
Board unanimously went into Closed Session pursuant to
G.S.143-318.11(a)(5) to conduct attorney interviews.
CLOSED SESSION (Separate minutes for Closed Session are prepared and
kept confidential.)
The Board returned to Open Session with a motion by Mr. Scott, seconded
by Mrs. Butler with no opposition.
There being no other items of business to be conducted, Mr. Scott made
the motion to adjourn. Mrs. Butler seconded the motion. All members
were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
