Know Can Hurt Your Child

 

 

Tuttle Middle School To Host Special Parent Night on Online Safety

 

Representatives from the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office will present valuable information on online safety for parents.   This presentation will last about 35 minutes.

A Report on the Nation’s Youth by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicates….

  • 1 in 5 youths between the ages of 10 and 17 has received unwanted sexual solicitations online
  • 1 in 4 youths has been exposed to sexually explicit pictures online without seeking or expecting them
  • 1 in 17 youths has been threatened or harassed online
  • 1 in 33 youths has received an aggressive solicitation to meet somewhere

Warning Signs of Online Dangers

  • Your child spends large amounts of time online, especially at night.
  • You find pornography on your child's computer.
  • Your child receives phone calls from someone you don't know or is making calls, sometimes long distance, to numbers you don't recognize.
  • Your child receives mail, gifts, or packages from someone you don't know.
  • Your child hides what they are doing on the computer.
  • Your child becomes withdrawn from the family.
  • Your child is using another email account.
