 | Prewriting: Before you start, you need to spend a little time
planning, so get some paper and a pencil, find a comfortable spot, and think
about your interests. Do some prewriting to help yourself focus. The answers
to the following questions may point you in a direction:
 | In what events of these decades are you are interested? List
those. |
 | Are there singers, artists, writers, or sports figures of this
period that pique your interest? What do you know about historical
figures like inventors, military persons, or political figures of the
era? List the names of people you know about. |
 | List the names of historical movies, books, radio and TV shows,
etc. from the era. |
 | Think about places you may have visited in different cities like
museums, parks, and landmarks. Are there famous people or events that
are connected with these places? |
 | Once you've made these lists, consider what connections you can
make from them. For example, if you listed baseball, you might think of
the Babe Ruth years or explore the Black Sox scandal. |
 | Make a list of potential periods and then do some free writing.
What interests you most about this period? What do you already know?
What do you want to know? |
