PROCESS

PART I:

1. Explore web resources to learn about the real Dr. Seuss.  Read about his life, using the web. Click on the pictures below to travel to sites about Dr. Seuss.    

                               

2. Read the books Yertle the Turtle, The Sneetches, Horton Hatches the Egg, and The Lorax with your group or class. Read reviews for Dr. Seuss books by clicking below. 

3.Complete a chart briefly describing the plot, characters, and message of each story. Can you tell what Dr. Seuss is really trying to tell us?

PLOT: What happens in the story?

CHARACTERS: Who are they?

MESSAGE: What is Dr. Seuss teaching us?

4. Alliteration is the repetition of a consonant sound to create an effect in writing. Look at examples of alliteration by clicking below. Then find three examples of phrases that use alliteration in one of the Seuss stories you read.

PART II:

Take the role of biographer, reviewer or author. Produce part of a Power Point presentation as follows. 

Biographer:  Create  two or three slides that tell about Dr. Seuss's life. Use information from at least two web sites (see above). Choose background, art, and font for your slides.

 

Reviewer: Read reviews on the web. Choose one book by Dr. Seuss. Write a review for the book, telling what you liked about the story. Put your review on two or three slides in Power Point. Choose background, art, and font for your slides.

 

Author: Write a short Seuss-style story that gives a message about respecting others or the environment. Illustrate your story with clip art or drawings. Put your story on two to three slides in the Power Point presentation. If you wish to use rhyming words in your story, click below for a rhyming dictionary.

Finally, share your Power Point presentation with  your class, or with students in other classes.       Be sure to take a bow!
