You will be creating The Maycomb Tribune.  This newspaper will illustrate what life was like in the town of Maycomb, Alabama, the fictitious setting of the story which was modeled after the author's hometown of Monroeville, Alabama.

 

Part I

You have been assigned to a group that you will work with on this project.  While everyone will be participating in equal amounts, each member of your group will have a different "Job Title".  All members of the group will be responsible for creating and writing articles for the newspaper.  The job description for each of these positions is listed below.  All you need to do is click on your job title to see what your responsibilities are.

Part II

Your Maycomb Tribune must include the following:

One Feature Story (based on events from the novel)

Part III

In your Maycomb Tribune, you must also include at least TWO of the following articles.  You can use these, or you can come up with your own additions to the newspaper.  There is some flexibility here, but please know that I am looking for historical accuracy and your reliance on the sources you have accessed.

Part IV

Obviously, if you are going to report on Maycomb County, then you have to make yourself aware of what life in Maycomb was like.  Click on the button below to visit several sites that will help to familiarize you with the aspects of life in Maycomb County, Alabama.  By the way, make life a little easier...take some notes!!

Part V

After writing the articles and laying out the paper you will submit your paper on the due date.  Please click below to see the Evaluation Rubric that will be used in grading.  Regardless of whether you choose to use Microsoft Publisher or to do a "cut and paste" newspaper, your newspaper MUST be typed.
