Introduction

Are you a good friend?   Can you imagine having no friends at all?  No friends to play with, eat lunch with, or share your best secrets.  Having friends is a very important part of your life. Having friends and being a good friend takes practice.  This  WebQuest will help you to learn more about being a friend and making new friends.

The Task

Making new friends can be a great adventure.  At the end of the WebQuest adventure, you should be able to tell how you can make new friends and how you can be a better friend. You will learn about community programs that are available to help you meet new people.

The Process

1.  Read (with a partner) Rhubarb by Stephen Cosgrove.  On a sheet of white drawing paper, draw a picture of Rhubarb being friends with one of the farm animals.  At the bottom of the paper, write two nice things that you can do to have more friends.  Also, write two things that would cause you to lose your friends.

2.  Read Franklin's New Friend by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark.  Go to the Story  Page and write a story about a new kid in your class at school.  Go to Franklin's Webpage to learn more about Franklin.  Choose a picture to print and color on his activity page.

3.  Go to Puzzlemaker and make a word search.  Use at least fifteen feeling words and/or words that will show how you can be a good friend in your puzzle. (Example:  happy, sad, anger, sharing).  Print your puzzle and find the words.
.
4.  A pet can be a wonderful friend.  Do you have a pet at home?  Visit the Weekly Reader website and write a story about your favorite pet.

5.  With your teacher's or parent's help, go to the Penpals site and sign up for a penpal.

6.  Are you interested in making new friends through a community program?  Are you interested in joining the Boy Scouts or the Girl  Scouts  program?  Visit the Parent Links site with your mother or father to learn more about Scouting.
