Introduction
 
You and your friends have formed a band!  Ond night during rehearsal lightning strikes the garage you're rehearsing in.  When the smoke clears you realize that you've been transported back to 1930 and are sitting in on a rehearsal of Duke Ellington and His Orchestra.  While your group is in the Cotton Club you discover many interesting things you can't wait to get back to the year 2000 and share.

The Task
 
 

You and your group will need to complete the following task to return home:
  • Complete a time line of Duke Ellington's life
    • Include important dates
    • Important hit songs
    • Pictures
You must also choose one of the following tasks:
  • Write an interview of Duke Ellington for WJTV.
  • Perform a famous Duke tune on the instrument of your choice.
  • Design a Playbill and Album Cover
  • Research instruments used in Duke's Orchestra.

The Process
 
Groups will be divided into groups of 4-6 members.  Your group will become experts on the life of Duke Ellington.

Each group will create a time line that should include:

  • Important Dates and Events in Duke's life
    • Birthday
    • Education
    • Performances & their location
    • Song Titles
    • Film Titles
    • Tour Destinations
  • Pictures
    • Find cip art
    • Draw your own
Each group will choose one of the following to complete their task.

Evaluation
 
Your group will recieve a common grade for the completion of your tasks.  Your grades will be ranked as follows:  Superior, Excelent or Average.
